In the “Heights” of Hood River, where the locals stroll the streets to catch yoga classes and fill their baskets with local flavors, you will find Pine Street Bakery. Don’t miss the fougasse bread, monstrous (and delicious) breakfast sandwiches, or if they have the homemade cinnamon raisin, definitely get a loaf to take home. When breakfast is complete, take a stroll along the nearby Indian Creek Trail and experience one-of-a-kind views of the Hood River as it winds its way down to the Columbia River.

History & Heritage

After breakfast, head toward the Hood River Airport to visit the Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum (WAAAM), which has one of the nation’s largest collections of operable antique aeroplanes and antique automobiles. The museum’s exhibits are not only full of history, but also nostalgia for slower days.

While at WAAAM, cruise over to the airport and go for a scenic flight! Local non-profit Hood River Soaring’s glider rides make for a spectacular aerial experience, or TacAero offers one-hour Mt. Hood tours and other customizable scenic flight experiences.

Mid-day Snacking

After a busy morning and your scenic flight, head to the Gorge White House to sip on artisan house-made cider, and pick fresh fruit and flowers to take home. Then swing into Lake Taco for Mexican cuisine on the patio, where they are 100% committed to authentic Mexican flavors. Try the huarache or the mulitas for a cheesy treat.

Waterfront Fun

After a fun trip up into the Valley, head for the Hood River waterfront and the Hood River Waterfront Trail. Follow the trail over to Hood River SUP and Kayak for one of their sunset kayak tours. Explore the river, in water so clear that you can see the bottom of the river, not to mention wildlife. There are fish, eagles, osprey, herons, ducks, and other water fowl that call this inlet home. The 2-hour tour includes a paddle, some beach time to relax and finishes with a float back out to the Columbia.

Pho’ sho!

Next, you guessed it; it’s time to refuel after your busy day. Follow the locals to Pho River for takeout. Don’t let the name fool you, there’s a lot more on the menu than Pho. Run by three brothers, the menu reflects their Laotian roots with Pan-Asian cuisine with a family oriented vibe. Don’t forget to hit Cicci Gelato for dessert (come on, you definitely earned it), which you can enjoy while seated on the beach at the Waterfront Park.

Where to stay?

End the day with one final view…Okay, who are we kidding? There’s a view around every corner…with cliffside views when you check in to the Westcliff Lodge. A family-run property since 1954, you’ll rest well set among five wooded acres of majestic pine trees and native wildflowers.
