VISIT HOOD RIVER ANNOUNCES CHANGE TO HOOD RIVER HOLIDAYS EVENT AMID INCLEMENT WEATHER

Holiday Tree Lighting to proceed as planned; Winter Wonderland Festival canceled

(HOOD RIVER, Ore.) — Visit Hood River and the Hood River Chamber of Commerce announce an essential change to the Hood River Holidays event scheduled for today, Friday, Dec. 1. Due to unexpected challenges caused by the recent snowfall and forecasted heavy rain, the Winter Wonderland Festival portion of the Hood River Holidays celebration, on Oak St. from 5-7 p.m., has been canceled.

Hood River Holidays’ annual holiday tree lighting, planned for 7 p.m. at the intersection of 2nd and State streets, will proceed as scheduled provided weather conditions maintain the safety of attendees. Residents and visitors alike are invited to gather around the community holiday tree, which will be illuminated amidst caroling and festive cheer, as a symbol of community spirit and celebration.

“The snow, while adding to the seasonal beauty, has diverted City resources to ensure the safety of streets around town. These resources, including barricades and other traffic control features, were to be used for street closures at the festival,” said Katie Kadlub, CEO of Visit Hood River. “After discussing our options with the City, Visit Hood River has made the difficult decision to suspend the street closure and festival portion of the event so the City of Hood River’s public works team can prioritize the safety and well-being of the community.”
